JAY BASTIAN, MSW, LCSW

Jay is passionate about his work & people.  He specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy and task-centered therapy addressing anxiety, depression, and maladaptive behaviors. Jay utilizes arts-based interventions designed to help clients connect with their creative selves.

Our brains are divided into two hemispheres, the right side & the left side.  As individuals we tend to operate from primarily one of these hemispheres.  Individuals who are primarily left sided tend to use logic, reason & rationale to govern their behavior.  Individuals who are primarily right sided tend to use emotions & experiences of relationship.  While there is nothing wrong with dominance in either hemisphere, our goal is to row down the river in between these two hemispheres.

Art based interventions allow clients to reconnect with their “creative self" through tapping into the logic of the left hemisphere & engagement with the peaceful processing of the right hemisphere of the brain.  Having taught drawing at Indiana University – Purdue University, Fort Wayne; working as a Healing Artist at Parkview Health, Inc.; and being a therapist at Parkview Behavioral Health, Jay recognizes and utilizes the tremendous therapeutic benefits of the arts in recovery and wellness.

Jay Bastian, MSW, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, behavior consultant, and mental heath therapist. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Social Work with honors and currently serves as an Indiana School of Social Work field support team member.
